“Superfly” (**1/2 out of four) was an above-average remake of the 1972 blaxploitation classic about a young drug dealer (Trevor Jackson) trying to get out and leave the streets behind but finds himself caught between other warring factions (Jason Wright, Michael Kenneth Williams, Kaalan Walker) and corrupt police. Lots of violence and stylized action but it all gets a little repetitive and numbing after a while. Not bad but not better than the original and not distinguished enough from other underworld melodramas. Is another remake of “Shaft” far behind?
