“Breath” (** out of four) was a suffocated suspense melodrama about a geologist (Rachel Daigh) who falls inside a volcano and is sealed off from the rest of the world and struggles to stay alive and maintain her sanity as she tries to escape; the rest of the film intercuts this with flashbacks to her life at home and her relationship with her daughter. Well-made and well-performed by Daigh, with some striking directorial touches from John Real and lonely cinematography from Luigi Mingrone, but story becomes unavoidably monotonous after a while. Yet another survivor/struggle movie that seems inspired by “127 Hours”.
